clinical skills competition

September 29th, 2010

NJSHP hosted the Clinical Skills Competition where students entered the competition in teams of two. Each team was given a specific patient case that reflects an actual scenario that pharmacists may encounter in any patient-venue. Students had two hours to identify acute and chronic medical problems and develop a pharmacist’s care plan. The top 3 teams were then required to give a ten minute oral presentation justifying their therapy recommendations. Congrats to this year's winners Julius Li and Christine Rash!  All students got goodie bags from Walgreens!

Visit http://www.ashp.org/Import/ABOUTUS/Awards/ClinicalSkillsCompetition.aspx to see last year's local/national cases and answer keys. The team with the highest combined score of the oral and written presentations was declared the winner. The winning team from each school advanced to participate in the national competition held annually at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.

Winning students from each school received a complimentary registration ($265 value) for the 44th ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. The top ten national finalists received a $100 ASHP gift certificate as part of their prize package. National winners received a $500 cash award and trophy for their school! Winning team members were required to attend the National Competition.
